Contacting Garfield County Search and Rescue
Calling 911
If you have a search and rescue emergency you should call 911 immediately, but please be aware that you may not get the appropriate 911 dispatcher for your needs.
In Colorado, the County Sheriff is responsible for search and rescue emergencies outside the city limits. Tell the dispatcher as much as you know about the lost/injured person and the area/region you think they might be in.
The agency responsible for search and rescue varies from state to state. It is recommended that you find out who does search and rescue and how to contact them for the area that you are going to be in.
